Most parents want to be good parents. Yet parenting is one of those things that does not have hard and fast rules. So how do we know what to do? How do we know what will support our children in being all they can be?

As the dust begins to settle from parents rounding up their children’s toys after the national lead paint recalls, many eco-conscious parents now wonder how they should dispose these confiscated toys. The toys’ lead paint is highly toxic and known to cause a range of health problems in young children. There is no question that parents should immediately remove these toys from the home and away from children. Naturally, most parents would just throw the toys away without giving it a second thought. However, throwing toxic toys in the trash carries serious consequences, as these same toxins will eventually end up in a landfill and back into our drinking water.

Chances are you've had an argument or twenty with your parents recently about clothes, homework, friends, curfew pretty much anything. But what's going on when your parents fight with each other?. You may be a little relieved that, for once, you're not the one arguing with a parent. But most people worry when they hear their parents argue.

All young babies cry at some time during the day. Whether it's a subdued grumble or a full throated roar, a baby's cries are his only means of communicating his needs. Having said that, there is no doubt that a persistently fretful baby can be a strain for parents, so it's worth thinking about the underlying causes. Look upon crying as conversation rather than an irritant designed to up set you.

For most parents, saying no to their children is hard. Parents may feel that they are being mean, unfair, or that they are denying their children life’s pleasures by not letting them have their every heart’s desire. Often times, parents take the saying, “Ask and you shall receive,” a bit too literally.

We hear it everyday. Many of today's parents are more overprotective than they once were. Teachers complain that parents are doing their children's homework for them. The fertility rate has remained low because couples are having fewer children than they would like not because of a widespread reluctance to reproduce.
Research by the Australian Institute of Family Studies indicates most people would prefer to have two, three or four children rather than one child or no children. But their circumstances force them to settle for a smaller family.
