As parents fill their child's backpack this month with pens, pencils and other supplies, some may be wondering whether a wireless phone is a necessary back to school accessory. The Center on Media and Child Health Web site states that 54 percent of 8 to 12 year olds will have a cell phone within the next three years.

Few experiences capture the essence of summer as strongly as a day at the beach. When the hot, humid weather hits, that's about the only place I want to be, lounging in the sand, cooling off at the shoreline, and relaxing under the sun. And given the perfection of a summer day at the beach, the only way it can be made better is by hosting a party there, and inviting your favorite beach bum friends to enjoy the salty, sea air with you. Keep your party casual, transportable, and by all means as relaxed as a day at the beach should be.

When children are taught from an early age to pick up their toys after playing, the process becomes routine. Not requiring immediate cleanup when kids are little leads to difficulty later on. Solutions can be achieved, however, at any age.

A child who reads becomes an adult who reads. Most adults who begin reading at an early age continue to learn by reading throughout their lives. Reading is more than a necessary skill it's a source for learning, entertainment, enjoyment and comfort. The skill of reading can be one of the most valuable gifts that you give to your or any child.

Pillows are fun. They are soft and comfy and of course excellent for a little tussle here and there. Pillows are also a statement of ambiance for any bedroom, not just the master bedroom. Selecting pillows for the bedroom is just as much about comfort as it is about creating a look.

Will Generation Z - history's most technogically adept evolve into tomorrow's realists or idealists?Pinned to the wall of my daughter's grade 1 classroom is a sheet of butcher's paper, listing questions she and her classmates would like to answer. Will the water run out? How many children travel to school in a sustainable way? Are cities a good idea? The next sheet lists ways they will find out the answers. First on the list: check the internet.
