In our society the default answer to nearly every question is "Yes." Advertising is all geared towards getting us to say "Yes - I need that." We phrase our inquiries looking for yes: "Would you like more coffee?" "Would you be interested in joining me for dinner?" "Would you help me move next week?" "Would you mind if I asked you a personal question?" "Do you love me?" With such a powerful default answer ingrained in us it can be very difficult to say anything else often leaving us feeling trapped, guilty, or frustrated as a result.

Scientists in Japan and New Zealand have developed an onion that doesn't make you cry when you cut it. Reasearchers discovered that the tearing agent is caused by an enzyme within the onion. Previously, it was believed cutting caused the tearing.

After the wedding dress and bride's bouquet, maybe nothing is so powerful a wedding symbol as the wedding cake. Many people just assume the wedding cake has always been a part of wedding celebrations everywhere. Like all popular beliefs, there's some truth to that idea, though of course the real facts are much more fascinating and a whole lot more colorful.

I have always loved the look of freshwater pearls, but I never thought that I would be able to afford them. Buying fake pearls seems like a waste. They are so obviously phony. The plastic just does not compare to the luster of a real Pearl. That was before I found out about what are cultured pearls. I did not know that there were pearls available for purchase that looked just like natural ones, but for much less. It is amazing how much cheaper they are!
